Anthony Mehran, CEO

Huffman Koos Companies

Anthony Mehran, born in 1970, grew up in Queens New York and became a very successful, award-winning furniture retailer and commercial real estate developer. He is also known for his philanthropic work and his commitment to giving back to various communities and organizations.

He graduated Cardozo High School in Queens with honors and thereafter attended Queens College. He started his home furnishings career in the early 1980’s working part-time after school at his parent’s humble furniture store in Flushing, New York. There he learned the ins and out of selling, buying and delivering home furnishings. In 1989 he made a leap to start his own business while he was in college. The

Queens store was approximately 900 square feet and primarily carried mattresses. Now, Mr. Mehran is the CEO of Huffman Koos Furniture, a full line furniture retail company founded in 1961. This home furnishings franchise currently maintains seven stores throughout New York and New Jersey.

Mr. Mehran’s career as a real estate developer began in 1992 with the development of a furniture showroom on Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst, New York. He has developed and acquired a diversified portfolio of real estate, including retail shopping centers and free- standing retail properties with several Fortune 500 and national tenants, such as Walgreens, TD Bank, Sherwin Williams, Aldi Supermarket, Ethan Allen, Ashley Homestore and several others. To date, his successful projects include Rockaway Commons, a shopping center that is over 90,000 square feet in Rockaway, New Jersey. He has also developed Huffman Koos Plaza, Paterson Plaza and Watchung Home Center in New Jersey, all being multi-tenant shopping centers totaling over 110,000 square feet.


He has also developed and acquired several hundred rental apartment units across various states. His most significant residential project is Mehran Lofts in downtown Albuquerque New Mexico, in which the final development of the building will hold 214 loft apartment units. Mr. Mehran also developed a 37-unit loft building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn as well as several other multi-family buildings.


Mr. Mehran has a strong belief for philanthropic work, supporting many causes such as Save the Children, Autism Speaks, Meals On Wheels, Smile Train, RHF Foundation, The Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation and many more. He is a member of the board for the Ante 4 Autism foundation. He is most notably co-founder and serves as the Vice President of Community Outreach Services, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides a year-round open food pantry, feeding over 1000 families per month in Paterson New Jersey.

He supports local organizations and residents including visiting home-ridden patients to help them with their medicines and other needs. He works closely with the Saddle Brook police as well as a local opioid detox center to help educate the community about the dangers of drug abuse. He sits on the board of LEAD (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) and is an honorary member of the NJ Police Honor Legion, an associate member of the Passaic County Chiefs of Police Association and chairman of the Arab-American International Law Enforcement Federation.


Mr. Alhout annually supplies lunches for poor school children as well as dinners and clothing for the local poor for the holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas and Eid. In addition to his work with the local community Mr. Alhout contributes internationally to the West Bank to help the especially poverty stricken families by providing means for shelter, medical and dental care and food. He supports many U.S. Based charities as well, such as St. Jude’s, Smile Train, Lamps for Haiti, Heifer, Shriners Hospitals and many more.


Mr. Alhout owns the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Saddle Brook NJ and The HART (Hollistic Allergy Relief Therapy) Center also located in Saddle Brook. He lives in Fairfield, NJ with his wife Renata and his three daughters Amanda, Alexa and Celine.

Mr. Aatif Alhout was born on November 14, 1963.  He moved to the U.S. at the age of 18 to pursue a degree. He worked full time to put himself through college and graduate school.  He attended Concordia College and continued his higher education at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science University where he obtained his R.Ph. degree.  He also earned a degree in Nuclear Pharmacy from Butler University.


Although he struggled in his early years, he realized how fortunate he was and always found and continues to find ways to give back.
